Nesėkmės išgyvenimas pirmiausia sukelia norą gintis, paskui aktyvumas mažėja, kol galiausiai veikla ar bendravimas nutrūksta. Sunkūs nesėkmės išgyvenimai gali sukelti neurozę, apatiją. Antra vertus, nesėkmės išgyvenimas gali sužadinti jėgas iš naujo siekti tikslo, realizuoti aspiracijas, gali padidinti rizikavimo lygį.
